Having a CPA Wasn’t Enough For Us Anymore

After becoming a business owner and my husband’s job changing we felt like we were finally getting ahead! Until we were hit with an unexpected tax bill…  We had never dealt with this in the past, in fact we typically got a good return….but we actually owed thousands. I was so confused because we had a CPA, but we were NEVER warned about this. Nobody was looking at the entire financial picture together: the business, our taxes, our savings, and where we were headed next. We quickly realized that simply having a CPA wasn’t cutting it anymore. You can have a CPA, you can have a financial advisor, you can have someone handling your books. But that doesn't necessarily mean all of those pieces are working together or that you're getting a full picture of your finances.

How We Found Blend Wealth

I was desperate for help so I began to reach out on Facebook groups and to other businesses to ask who they used for situations like ours. Blend Wealth was the name that came up over and over. We looked them up, scheduled our free Right Fit Call.

We had tax conversations we NEVER had with our CPA we had during our very first meeting I hear the same horror stories from so many other business owners now too. Maybe your business is growing faster than you expected, you’re making a lot more than you were a few years ago, you’ve got investments, retirement accounts, business expenses, taxes, and personal finances all happening at once, and it’s starting to feel like a lot.

They take  a comprehensive approach to financial planning, bringing Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and Certified Financial Planners™ (CFP®) together to help business owners, high-income earners, and families make smarter decisions with their money. They look at the bigger picture, from taxes and business finances to investments and long-term wealth planning.

Blend works with clients who come in with:

“I can’t get ahold of my CPA”

“Nobody told me”

“My cash is just sitting there”

“I don’t have time to manage all of this”

It’s like you have to chase answers about your own money? Your business grows, but no one tells you that you have to raise your estimated tax payments to keep up and then found out when the tax bill hits (Hi, that was basically me).

They told me they had a new client with $1.3 million in cash that was slowly losing value to inflation because nobody had helped him put a plan behind it.

At a certain point, it can become a lot to manage. Having a CPA, financial advisor, bookkeeper, and other professionals who aren't necessarily communicating with each other makes this harder.

That’s the gap Blend Wealth fills. Your CPA, your financial planner, and your bookkeeping are on one team with one point of contact, so your taxes, your business, and your personal finances work together instead of in separate silos.

The Tax Conversation I Wish I Had Sooner…

The biggest difference I’ve noticed working with Blend Wealth is the shift from reporting what happened at the end of the year, when it was too late, it was basically “here’s what you made, here’s what you owe.” to now, where we are actually planning for what's next and being in communications before decisions are made and  throughout the entire year.

Blend Wealth's approach is to look ahead and ask questions like:

Are there opportunities to be more strategic with your taxes?

Is your business structured in the best way for where you're headed?

Is your cash working as hard as it could be?

Are your business finances and personal finances working together?

What are you actually trying to build with the money you're making?

For someone whose financial situation has become more complicated as their income or business has grown, having those conversations before decisions need to be made can make a huge difference.

For your business, your family, and financial future.

Blend Wealth works with a lot of business owners, but you absolutely do not have to own a business to work with them. They help individuals and families with financial planning, investments, taxes, and estate planning too.

You also don’t need every service on day one. Some clients start with bookkeeping and tax returns. Others come in personal wealth services. As life changes, you can add what you need, all with the same team. The idea isn't that everyone needs every service. It's about having a team that can meet you where you are and grow alongside you.

The photo below is a great reference for how Blend Wealth can help manage your entire financial life.

Blend Wealth’s Impact on our Life, Business, Finances and Future

Sometimes the biggest financial opportunities aren't the ones you already know about… they're the ones you haven't thought to ask about yet, or simply haven't had someone come alongside you to work through with you.

There are plenty of financial and accounting firms out there, so I think it's important to understand what actually makes one different from another and who you are able to fully trust with your business, your money, and your future.

With multiple businesses, my husband as a W2 employee, a new home, and a baby on the way, Blend has helped us look at our financial life as a whole, included us in every conversation, helped us understand the best ways to optimize our finances and we have felt so much relief going into our second tax season and first full year with them feeling prepared instead of frantic.

And that's exactly what I'll get into in Part 2: what we've learned through the process of working with their team and the things we didn't even realize we were missing and my honest experience as a client.
